InSpace and FERPA
FERPA stands for the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. 1232g,34CFR§99) and is designed to ensure students’ personal identifiable education information is protected. InSpace is dedicated to ensuring we are abiding by FERPA regulations. We acknowledge that information about the Institution’s students is contained in records maintained by InSpace and that this information is confidential per the FERPA (Family and Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (20 U.S. C. 1232g)).
We acknowledge that in the course of an Institution’s use of InSpace, personal identifiable information about students is available in InSpace through LTI integration with the Client’s LMS platform. Under FERPA exceptions, we are deemed as a “School Official” by your educational agency or institution and are granted only access to student information, which are deemed necessary to use InSpace.
InSpace agrees that officers, employees, and agents of InSpace, who have access to personal identifiable information may only use such data for legitimate educational interests. Any data received from faculty and/or students will be utilized to perform professional actions within InSpace only.
InSpace defines personal identifiable information in our system as student first name, student last name, email address and LMS login ID but we also recognize that we retain information on behalf of our system users, including files, messages, discussion posts and comments that may be personal in nature and we treat those with the same level of security as traditional personal identifiable information.
