My camera and microphone aren’t working…
InSpace allows you to select which camera and microphone you want to use while in the space. However, in some cases InSpace may not automatically detect a camera or microphone, or the devices could be blocked.
Microphone and camera defaults can be accessed several ways in Chrome, but the easiest is to paste the following links into the address bar:
From these areas, you can manage the default microphone and camera for Google Chrome. You can also block or allow specific website access to your microphone and camera. Be sure that InSpace (https://www.inspace.chat/#home) is listed under the Allow section. If you see that InSpace is already listed under the Allow section, it may be that your drivers/hardware have lost their connection to the browser. Try restarting your computer to resolve this problem.
When InSpace asks you for permission to access your camera and microphone, you may have accidentally chosen “Block” instead of “Allow.”
If this is the case, press the camera icon in the browser’s address bar to unblock, and then click “Try Again.”
Restart your browser:
If you are still having trouble getting your camera and microphone working, try restarting your browser. This simple step solves many of the camera and microphone issues with InSpace.
Update your browser:

Clear the browser cache and cookies:
You could have a stale microphone and/or camera permissions cookie, or another application could be currently accessing the microphone and/or camera, taking priority access over InSpace.
If the above solutions are not resolving the issue, we recommend clearing the cache and cookies for your browser and then restarting your computer. Sometimes a reset of your system environment will resolve these types of issues, so this is a “catch-all” solution before further investigation is required! Starting with macOS Mojave, Apple introduced some system-level privacy controls for your microphone and camera. These provide strong privacy, but it is possible that your browser was mistakenly blocked from accessing your devices. You can check these settings and allow your browser to access the devices from the Security & Privacy section in your System Preferences.
To access these settings, do the following:
- Click on the Apple in the top left of your screen, and select System Preferences.
- Click on Security & Privacy.
- Click on Camera in the list of options, and check the box next to Google Chrome browser to allow access.
- Repeat Step 3 for your microphone.
- After doing this, restart your browser for the updates to take effect.
In Windows 10, you are able to set a default microphone, but there are also system-level camera permissions on what applications can access your camera. To access these settings, open your system settings by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the Settings gear.
You can adjust the microphone settings by typing “mic” into the search bar and going to the Sound settings. Scroll down to Input and use the dropdown to select the proper input device.
Camera permissions can be accessed by typing “cam” into the search bar. These settings are under your general Privacy settings, but a search is the easiest way to access them. From here, be sure your browser has permission to access your camera.
Still not working? Check Browser Extensions:
It is not uncommon for some third party browser extensions to cause problems with some websites. To test this, try using your browser by opening it in an Incognito tab. If all (including InSpace) works normally, then an extension may be causing the issue. Unfortunately, there is no way to easily identify which one. You would need to go through a process of elimination to identify which extension is causing the issue.
If you are still getting an Error:
Make sure another application (e.g. Teams, Google Meet, Zoom) isn’t still using your camera. If your login screen shows a preview of your camera that you didn’t realize is there, then your camera is not available to InSpace. If the microphone in your camera is being considered / suggested for use by another platform that is running in the background for its audio, then InSpace may not be able to use your camera. Simply shut down all other platforms that are lurking or are in the taskbar one by one until InSpace stops giving the error message.
